Ok, I have now heard enough market forecasts to feel comfortable with this quick post on the top areas to invest or buy real estate in Texas.
Here is the order in which I would buy properties:
- Austin. It's Austin. I love it here and we're the best city in Texas. Sure, I may be biased. We have lake areas, hill country, golfing, etc. but we're not snooty about it.
- Houston. I like the Woodlands & Magnolia area as well as Katy, TX.
- Temple/Killeen. The numbers actually WORK out there.
- Edinburg. I wrote a blog about it, so you have to read it.
- McAllen-Mission. Close to Edinburg.
- San Antonio. I heard it's still good there. They also have good tacos.
- Corpus Christi. Affordable beach-front property anyone?
- El Paso. Affordable desert property anyone? No? Well the area is still growing.
- Dallas. Austin's high-rise cousin (in terms of being an appreciation market, of course.)
- Fort Worth. Growing and yet affordable.
I love your viewpoint and pleased to know you place Temple/Killeen highly.
Could you share with us your reasons why you put Temple/Killeen in the 3rd place, just after Austin and Houston?

Killeen was third because Austin and Houston are great buys for just about every type of buyer. Luxury home buyers, condos, lofts, commercial, investors, retirees, lake/waterfront, etc.
You can't beat those markets, but I do like the appreciation and growth that Killeen will undergo. It's also definitely not as "pretty" or scenic as Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, etc.
