A friend of mine was in the grocery store this past Mother's Day weekend. A young lady who appeared in her late teens had a blank envelope with a stamp on it. She was confused and seemed as if she needed help. She held up the envelope and asked, "Where do I put the address on this? I haven't had to send a letter before".
Just then, he realized it. He's out of touch with the "new generation". He's a Generation X-er, but already, we're not as hip and cool as Generation Y. In combination with this blow to our psyche, I'd been realizing that I'm behind on a few real estate internet trends. I'm an avid blogger, but started feeling as dated as a cassette tape.
Generation Y is helping push the real estate world into technologies that deliver videos, audio and information instantly.
If your agent thinks they're on top of trends because they can use a
Blackberry for email, text-message you every now and then or can send
an e-card, they need to play catch up. If they aren't even using these
basic tools in their business...uh oh.
New internet technologies have already become a mainstay in some real estate businesses. In fact, some Austin-based companies are making headway.
Check these trend-setters:
- DriveBuyTech. Sign riders that text message listing features to buyers. Dylan Schleppe is a great guy and goes above and beyond. He's now selling his technology and has website updates coming.
- Shackcasting. Mike Weiland is a smart, terrific person as well. He's competing with larger video podcasting companies, but has a better product. He focuses on customizing the podcasts to point to agent's site instead of his own.
