This week's builder spotlight is focused on GreenBuilders, a new endeavor by Clark Wilson, who is an established central Texas homebuilder.
With GreenBuilders, Wilson brings sustainable, environmentally responsible features to a much broader market than has been previously available. GreenBuilders has three developments in the works: Elm Grove in Buda, Georgetown Village in Georgetown, and Rutherford West in Driftwood.
GEORGETOWN VILLAGE HOMES
So far, Georgetown Village is the only community that is open. Homes there start in the $200s and range in size from 1800 sq ft to 2400 sq ft, with 15 different floor plans.
Georgetown is north of Austin and is a rapidly-growing community. The green homes at Georgetown Village feature
- Rain water collection and low-flow showerheads and toilets
- Low-E windows and compact flourescent lighting
- Energy efficient ducting, appliances, and heating/cooling units
- Energy-saving spray foam insulation and solar panel-ready construction.
Considering the
price point of these homes, that's a pretty impressive list.
What's also impressive is that Clark Wilson GreenBuilders isn't only paying attention to the environmental impact of the end user, but also on their responsibility as builders. Engineered or recycled lumber is used whenever possible and building materials are selected based on the environmental consequence of the manufacturing process and transport to the construction site, as well as the material's effect on the home's energy requirements.
I hope other builders follow the example.
