McAllen, Texas has been the talk of the nation for a few years now.

The McAllen-Mission-Edinburg area in South Texas (past San Antonio) consistently tops national charts for highest expected job growth, appreciation and housing growth.

TOP THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU VISIT MCALLEN, MISSION, OR EDINBURG TEXAS

1. Visit the museums. These areas are rich historical reminders of the Mexican-American culture. Try the Museum of South Texas History in Edinburg and International Museum of Art and Science in McAllen.
2. Go Birdwatching. They have some great wildlife refuges, such as the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge or the World Birding Center.
3. Take part in Fiesta Edinburg, an annual four-day celebration at the end of February. It includes Texas traditions such as a carnival, parade, rodeo, and authentic South Texas Food.
4. Visit the Bentsen-Rio Grande State Park.
5. Check out the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg. It's among the fastest-growing colleges in Texas.
6. Take in the architecture, such as the Quinta Mazatlan (pictured below) or the historic Renaissance Casa De Palmas hotel (above).
7. Buy real estate. This low-cost, but solid investment area has been steady despite the economy in other areas.
